History of the pub including ownership from 1792. Leased to brewers Chartres, Elliott & Co. in 1824. Initially known as the Red Lion; changed to the Selby Arms c.1839. John Moffat was licencee by 1827, followed by Roderick McIntosh. Empty from c.1867; licence application from Robert Brigham refused in 1871. Run as a boarding house (Selby House) by Mary Yetts by 1901. Later leased by John Renton then Henry Walker. Coach house converted to separate dwelling in 1971-1972
