Booklet describing plans for embankments and other works for protection of Holy Island coastline 1865-66
A booklet regarding an application for an Act of Parliament to incorporate a Company to be responsible for the reclamation of land from the sea at Holy Island and its maintenance thereafter. Each area involved is described, some of which are in other parishes or townships not on Holy Island itself. The Company is given powers of compulsory purchase and the power to divert or stop roads and watercourses as necessary. It is given the power to levy tolls and other charges and remove previous exemptions. The Company must deposit completed plans with the Clerk of the Peace for Northumberland and for relevant parts of the plan to be sent for display in areas affected. There follows a list of all landowners, lessees and occupiers affected.
