Common Recovery; Lancelot Moore and Richard Reedhead against Thomas Love for land on Holy Island 29 June 1653
Transfer of property by a judgement in the Court of Common Pleas, Westminster; a collusive action, its usual purpose was to break entails. It resulted in the property reverting to fee simple enabling it to be sold, mortgaged or re-settled. Lancelot Moore and Richard Reedhead demanded against Thomas Love the return of a messuage , 12 acres of land, 5 acres of pasture and 5 acres of meadow in Holy Island. Love stated that he had recieved the land from Peter Jones. A set procedure then followed, resulting in the judge’s order that the demandants should ‘recover their seizin’ from Thomas Love.
