Nicholas Weatherly, Surveyor
Born in Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1786, Nicholas Weatherly was brought up on Outchester Farm, near Belford. After training in Land Stewardship on the Longleat Estate in Wiltshire, he returned to the area where he became a noted Surveyor working on the main coaching roads north to Edinburgh, and for some 15 years was Bailiff for the Greenwich Hospital's Northern Estates in Northumberland.

Eleanor Weatherly
Eleanor Weatherly was the daughter of John Weatherly, the Gentleman Farmer at Outchester. In 1804, when she was 20, she began a diary to improve her handwriting and kept it for 2 years. This diary gives a vivid picture of daily life in the Belford area, and shows the impact of the war with France on the locality.
