The Land Yacht 'The Wanderer' in Northumberland 1886
'The Wanderer' was the first specially designed touring caravan. It arrived in Belford in 1886. Remarkably the caravan has survived the last 130 years and has now been restored to its former glory, thanks to the Caravan and Motorhome Club based at The National Motor Museum Trust, Beaulieu.

This account, by a ‘Peripatetic Parson’ appeared in the Church Times for 17 September 1909. It describes the Parson and his companion’s arrival in Belford, and the arrangements made to visit Lindisfarne. His account of his time on Lindisfarne appears on the Holy Island section of the Islandshire website.
